Arachnophobia

Is a phobia that I do not have. Or else, it would be impossible to summon up the courage to photograph....

Most of the photos here are all shot at the len's minimum focusing distance. This translates to the furry creature to be just about 5 - 8 cm away from contact with the lens' front. Yes, I was THAT close to being "terrorized" by a very misunderstood creature.

Speaking of misunderstood, tarantulas are actually docile natured rather than the stereotypical dark and terrorizing creatures portrayed in TV shows. In fact, I find them much like Koalas...always out of action.

EXCEPT when food appears in front of them. These deceptively slow organisms are actually The Flash in the form of an eight legged creature, with ultra sensory powers. The camera only caught blurred images of them grabbing their food. On an extra note, they do not bite, but they stun, liquify then ingest their food.

Oh yes, these shots were also made possible with consent and help with lighting effects from my friend Dennis, who claims ownership to and actually shares his bedroom with almost 50 species of tarantulas. The thought itself initially creeped me out but it really isn't that scary. Just imagine sleeping with your pets, but these ones are in plastic aquariums and have 8 long furry legs *hehe*

And just in case some of you wonder, they only need to be fed, for example, a Madagascar Cockroach once a month so they are in fact more economical to have than most household pets, even if there are 50 of them!
